You have 2 issues. Hot spares and RAID 5 are just an train wreck. Even with the faults that it has, I still don’t think that it’s the IT equivalent of the walking dead.
I can see you’re fairly new to the community, in terms of amount of posts, but a quick search about RAID5 will find you lots of articles stating don’t do it. I watched a raid 6 fail over the course of a week during during a dual drive failure. The third drive was experiencing experiencing timeouts but the array was still available.
