I did not notice any sharp edges at all. Absolutely delighted! This is sturdily constructed of thick plastic, and made with a channel that traps air underneath to assist it in staying up on the surface and not be easily submerged. It seems unlikely to warp with use. I feed loaches that like to fling themselves over the edge of feeding rings – so I found that lightweight rings weren’t working as the fish would just remain draped over them, which released the feed over the whole surface of the pond.
Feeding rings may not be essential per se, but they are a convenient way to get a look at most of the fish on a regular basis as well as helping more accurately gauge the amount of flake food being fed. I’m very pleased with the quality and design of this ring. We ordered this when we rebuilt our pond and added a skimmer. The skimmer was sucking all of the food pellets in almost as soon as we threw them in the water.
We added a sinker weight onto the unit with fishing line to keep it somewhat in one location. It took only a day for the fish to learn how to not be afraid of it, and to retrieve their food. No more pellets in the skimmer; no more waste. This is a perfect solution. One person found this helpful. My koi got used to this ring really fast.
It keeps the food from getting sucked into the skimmer. Definitely less waste. I would have given 5 stars but as other reviewers had mention there are sharp edges on the fins that stick out from each side. This is a great tool if you have new or skittish fishies that you want to develop a relationship with. Soon they will be too big for the ring, but they will be trained by then.
Feeding ring was delivered on time in perfect condition. Having read previous buyer reviews, I also noted the sharp points on the fins. It works. Protects aggressive koi from damage to themselves and fish food stays in place. We did not know that this type of product was made for feeding fish. We just love it. We have had it for a few months now and the fish know what this ring means.
We pour their portion control amount of pellets in the ring and they are ready. This ring also helps in containing the pellets in a certain area of the pond. Before when we fed them the pellets would float around and then drop in the filter. Not good. To keep the ring stationary in the area of the pond where we want it to be we attached it to a metal maybe its aluminum because it does not rust in the water rod which sticks out into the pond and tied it to the ring.
You can also attach a fishing line to the ring and tie the fishing line end to something. Yes, it was worth it to buy. We love watching them eat. They are so funny! I am pleasantly surprised by how well this feeding ring works in my fish pond. I have a waterfall which often led to fish food being taken by the current to the skimmer before the fish got to it.

I find that too much of the food floats out of the ring, which defeats the object. It also sits so low in the water that it might as well not be described as ‘floating’. The floating it does do tends to be across to the far side of the pond, which makes it inaccessible, and I have now anchored it with fishing line On the plus side, i like the idea of having two sections, allowing one to see if there is a particular food that is more or less ‘popular’.
Unfortunately, because of the problems I mentioned earlier, this has no been too successful! Something of an expensive disappointment, I’m afraid. This is a great product and keeps the flake in one place. It is easy to weight down, I used a small nylon string bag with marbles. There is enough space in the ring for the fish to feed and some will sink giving the bottom feeders a chance.
