Click anywhere on the page where the numbering is starting over at “1.” If you’re not in the Header and Footer view, select the Insert tab, click Footer and. Set your document’s page numbering to start on the second page, and choose another starting page number. If you want numbering to start with 1 on the second page, go to Page Number > Format Page Numbers, and set Start at to 0.

I am working on a manual and I have spent the majority of my day trying to figure out how to get the page numbering correct. I noticed that some of the pages show Odd page footer, when it really should be Even page footer.
I don’t know how to change it and when I go to the footer and highlight the page and change it and click on «link to previous» it messes the previous pages. Please help, this should not be so hard, I hope the version is better when dealing with page numbering, what a hassle! Link to previous is a setting that makes the entire footer the same as the corresponding footer in the preceding section – it doesn’t impact the page number only.

I am on a deadline for this and I’m about to pull my hair out. I am working on a manual using a template from the organization I work for.
This manual has headers and footers. The first ten pages are fine showing odd and even pages on each footer. I also checked the template to see if it was ok and it shows in brackets [manual] [chapter] [page], which is the format I need – the name of the manual on the left side for odd pages, the name of the manual on the right side for even pages with the chapter-page. Can you please help me? I asked about the version because I was told it works alot better with the page numbering.
This is Christina again, I also noticed when I changed those numbers it also affects the page number of the previous pages, and not consistently either. Some of the footers are linked as previous and others are not. I don’t know how to fix this and I need to get this done.
It will be printed and published as a double sided document, but in the meantime how can I make this consistent page numbering through out the entire document? I understand your frustration but it is difficult for us to help you when we can’t see the document you are wrestling with. Section breaks are a feature that make document formatting much more complicated.
Each section break introduces complication 3 x headers, 3x footers, page setup and page numbering. Typically section breaks are heavily over-used and cause great angst for users. What is the reason for having a section break in front of page 11? If you don’t need it, get rid of it. If you do need it, what type of section break is it Next page, Odd page, Even page? Is there any tracked revisions in the document? Can you see what section number Page 11 is?

If a page has an Odd Page footer, that’s because the page number is odd. There’s no way around that. In reply to Guessed’s post on July 29, Thank you.

The document has no section breaks. I selected the feature to see the hidden marks and there were no section breaks. Is there any way I can change the page to show even instead of odd and vice versa? This is a government document and I really can’t be sending it out since it is rather «sensitive.
